Some families know a great deal about their roots; others know very little. In these modern times, families tend to be scattered all over the country, if not the world. One of the goals of this web site is to help family historians in their search for their ancestors. Six Bells is listed under Llanhilleth Parish until around 1939 when it was then listed under Abertillery.

Six Bells, or Hafodvan as it was originally called was populated mostly by immigrant coal miners around 1870-1880 who moved from the Somerset coalfields. This is reflected greatly in the Census records as you can see where many of them were born.

When I began researching my family and its roots in Six Bells, where I was born in 1969, I found little or nothing on the web, so that is the main reason for this site, to help others who are researching. This is a work in progress, so please contact me if you have any information that might help round out the picture. Also if you have any photos of Six Bells then please send them to me and we will add them to the site so that many others can enjoy seeing the village past and present.

This site is free to all who want to use it. You can check the census records for the village of Six Bells. Thanks to Raymond Vincent, we have the oldest one available, which is the 1841 and then we also have the 1881,1891 and part of the 1901. If you have records or information regarding Six Bells that you would like to add to this ever growing picture then please send it through!
